Cold weather! Time for a Warm Drink! Mexican Coffee!

Here's a great cold weather drink. You can make this with or without alcohol and it is just as delicious with decaffinated coffee as with the regular stuff. Just be sure to start with strong coffee. There are a lot of strong flavors and weak coffee can get lost in the mix.

Basic Recipe for Mexican Coffee -
    2 cups water
1/4 cup coffee grounds (ground coarsely)
    1 table spoon... Read More

One thing I do a lot of during the summer is barbecue. I try to use healthy cooking recipes when cooking on my barbecue. I admit I sometime find barbecue cooking recipes for beef and pork that are far from a healthy cooking recipes but it just tastes so good I give in occasionally. But for the most part my cooking recipes I use when cooking outside on my charcoal... Read More

My cooking baking during the winter increases.

cooking baking, cooking recipes
It is somewhat ironic I am writing a post about cooking baking today as I have been using several of my cookbooks the last couple of weeks for cooking baking. I do not do a lot of cooking baking during the spring, summer, or fall seasons of the year as I am outside doing other things and cook far less that during the winter. Winter day's like we are having currently is the... Read More

Cooking Recipes for Great Twice Baked Potatoes

cooking recipes, cookbook I got a random urge to make twice-baked potatoes last night after seeing a slamming deal on spuds at the local grocer. My mom had made them over the holidays and I feel in love. Going off what I could remember of her cookbook recipe, I went for it. They turned out really good. There are many cooking recipes for twice-baked potatoes but here is mine:

Go local! Produce, wine and fun are all around you!

Wow, did I ever get a great reminder of how great local things can be over the weekend. I had the distinct pleasure of going ot the Bernhardt Winery in Plantersville, Texas (That's a little west of Conroe and Northwest of Houston at about an hour and fifteen minute drive). The offered a wine dinner (their first!) with pairings from the cellars there. The chef was their... Read More

Salad Dressings are the key it interest and layering of flavors. It doesn't even have to be salad!

I was cooking last night and I had one of my favorite green vegetables, Kale, on the stove top sauteing in some butter and olive oil with minced garlic and fennel rings. Sounds pretty good so far, right (apologies to you that don't like this sort of stuff). I just couldn't get it to where I wanted it, flavor wise. I could have gone to the bacon drippings for a teaspoon... Read More

Alittle bit of triva on wine bottle size! Just to start the week --

Happy Monday! After a long and active weekend, it might be a great time to consider a simple stew and a glass of great wine with some delicious crusty bread for dinner tonight. I plan to post the recipes for some stews this week and discuss some to the vessels designated for making these types of dishes. However, I thought we might start off the week with a bit of trivia... Great French cold weather beef stew recipe! From the good folks at Go Texan Magazine.

I know every one is proud of their state and rightly so. We all have things about the places that we live that are special, unique and wonderful. Texas is blessed with a very progressive and intelligent agricultural department. One of the better things that they do is publish and distribute an e-zine called Go Texan (what else?). There is generally a great recipe or... Read More

Winter leaves time for baking! It doesn't have to be hard! Here's a great cake to try.

About this time of year, when many of us are house bound and trapped indoors for long periods of time, we foodies turn to baking to fill the hours with enjoyable activity and great food. I was treated to this very simple recipe at a gather of financial advisors. They had a dessert bake-off and this thing won hands down. When I asked for the recipe, I was shocked at how... Read More

Did you know that you don't need fancy devices to make good crisp bacon in the microwave? It's true!

You can make the crispiest bacon in your microwave that you can imagine. I know how that sounds. Most people believe that food in a microwave is essientially steamed, because the microwave radiation causes the water molecules to heat up by moving at a high rate of speed. Not exactly true. The Xenon tube in a microwave does cause a sympathetic response in organic... Read More

My Home Business Would Not Be A Success Without My Bakery Supplies

bakery supplies

I have always wanted to be a baker. I have memories from when I was a very little girl of measuring flour and sugar next to my mother. I used to love the way the house would smell of bakery items after a long day in the kitchen, in fact I still do.

I knew that I wanted to create my own business at home as opposed to getting hired by a bakery. Firstly, I needed to find... Read More

A Good Cookbook is a necessity in the Kitchen

cookbook

I have always thought that I was pretty good cook. unfortunately, I have just learned that I may have been living in a dreamland for the last several years. I never used recipes when I cooked, I just made them up as I went along. I have been enlightened to the fact that this was a bad idea. My family had spared me the embarrassment of the truth until they could no longer... Read More

Scrumptious cooking baking

cooking recipes, cooking baking

I did all my cooking baking during the holidays and everything turned out pretty good. I didn’t bake tons of cookies and bakery items, because I didn’t want any cookies left after the holidays. After my company and family left, I didn't want any temptation. I enjoy getting out the once a year bakery supplies and baking the traditional treats. I have some friends who bake... Read More

We have a very large family and it takes a lot of work to keep everything running efficiently. I have started to notice that by letting my kids help me in the kitchen we have really gained a new balance. Not only do they like seeing the results of good effort but it also helps us bond and keeps them from sitting in front of the tv all the time.

Recently I realized that the... Read More

The Arctic is moving south for its yearly visit! Try some mulled cider to take the chill off.

Boy, it's cold even in South Texas. It's going to get colder. Here's a great recipe from the folks at Cook's Illustrated for mulled cider. It is yummy and really takes the chill off.

RECIPE: Fireside Mulled Cider
Makes about 2 quarts
