Don't let that turkey just sit there! Lay some Armadillo Eggs!

Thanksgiving Eve! Foodie heaven! There are going to be some geat things on the table form now until the New Year has come. I really love this time of year as a food fan. People share recipes, food and even enjoy each other’s company (yes, I know. Do it anyway.) Here’s a great one that I have used for a number of years. Now, I know that there are about a million variations on this... Read More

Particpate in the Thanksgiving around you. You'll find all kinds of ways to say Thanks!

Oh the food this week! I was fortunate enough to participate in the annual Crossbridge Christian Church Thanksgiving Luncheon. I though I would just leave you with a short blog today thanking the people that made that magnificent event possible. Great work and good times. Check out Crossbridge, if you are in the West Houston Area. Kevin Pigg is the Senior Minister there and one... Read More

If your gathering isn't on 'The Day", why not try a Pork Loin?

Monday of Thanksgiving Week! This is a good holiday for us foodies. After all, that’s a large component of what we do at this time of year. However, on of the things that can happen is a terrible repetition of the same meal over and over again, if you have several places to go. Although most families set a very diverse and delicious table, generally it consists of the same... Read More

It’s Friday and the weekend is coming up. Now, if you are like me, there are two things that you want for the weekend almost without fail. I want some great food and for someone else to make it. Only teasing! I love to cook, but I do love to find the simple stuff for Friday. Lately, I’ve seen a lot of the pro chefs on TV and the Web talking about making ravioli with won-ton... Read More

Give thanks. What is the greatest gift?

One day closer to our national day of celebration to give thanks for the many blessings that we have. Perhaps, on this unextraordinary Thursday (one week before Thanksgiving Day) we should just reflect on what you and I have. I’m not talking about material goods necessarily. Nor would I presume to comment on religious issues, in this most controversial of times. I would... Read More

Relax. It's going to get busy enough. Cheese and wine this evening.

Really great weather in Houston today! Nice and crisp in the morning and warm and inviting in the afternoon. One of the things that I really like to do on such a great day is to enjoy a great glass of wine and some cheese out on the patio while I watch the dos frisk around. Truth be known, I enjoy wine and cheese inside on miserable days, as well.

My tastes have turned to the... Read More

Your Roasting Pan - The most versatile pan in the kitchen!

OK! We’re getting closer to the day! We want to be ready and know how to use all of the great tools that are available to us to make life easier. One of the discussions that I’ve had with my daughter, son and number of my friends is why they should buy a roaster (roasting pan), particularly a roaster with a lid and a rack. Well, the simple answer is that it isn’t just a... Read More

The Holidays Are A Great Time For Wine!!

We’re running toward the Holidays and rounding the corner toward Thanksgiving. Wow! Where does the time go? Fortunately, this time of year brings to mind one of my favorite subjects; Wine! The fantastic foods and treats that we enjoy through this season are much enhanced by the addition of good wine. It doesn’t have to be expensive. It just has to be the one that you like with... Spirits of the Season. A Creole Julep!

Generally, I know this intended to be a summer drink, but the spicy nature and minty zip in this drink goes well with a fireside chat with good friends as well. As the season gets going, give this wonderful creation from Maksym Pazuniak of Cure and Rambla (New Orleans) a try. This new take on the old mint julep won top honors on thCocktail Trail in The Big Easy in 2009!

Shrimp is Available Year-Round. How About Shrimp for the Holidays?

I love shrimp. It is my great good fortune to spend a good bit of my time in and around the Gulf Coast, where they have a variety of really deliscious shrimp. I am as bad as that characther in Forrest Gump. You know. Bubba! "Well, there's fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, shrimp stew, shrimp gumbo, grilled shrimp,,," and so on and so on. I thought I might post... Read More

One pan, quick and easy Chicken and Dumplings

My son reminds me that when you are in college, you don’t have a great deal of time to deal with cooking and cleaning. Knowing my son as I do, he is also hungry all of the time. Ex-linemen (like he and I are) generally suffer that malady. When we are talking about fast cooking for a college guy with a football appetite and virtually empty pockets, we had better be talking...
