Sandwiches, meat and The George. Contact grills are great!

It’s kind of funny how your thoughts turn to odd things as another year comes to a close. While I was sitting here trying to think of what I might write about for today’s posting, my eye wandered across an old manual (actually a bit of a cook book) for my almost exhausted George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine, hereto fore know as it is in my house as The... The Holidays are wonderful! Here's a New Year's wish for all.

May this coming new year find you well. May those you love feel protected and safe. May safety and assurance wrap us all in its warm and comforting glow. May we begin to understand each other better and set aside petty differences. May we act kindly and lovingly with the responsibility accorded to the positions that we all have. Christian faith has a basic tenet that... Read More

Boy, wonders never cease! During this time of cookies and pastries and pies and cakes and so on and so on, what one doesn't need is another complicated stupid recipe that will eat into some good social time with the family and friends. Here's is one that I have used for years for late evening (early morning) snacks and breakfasts on Christmas morning when you are looking... Read More

Cook with the kids! One of the great treats of the Season. Simple Chocolate and P. Butter Cookie.

This is a great season to get to the kitchen with the kids. No matter their age, it is a wonderful bonding experience and can leave them with a bit of who you really are. That's a gift that money just can't buy!

My kiddos are grown, but we have alway had some fun with the things that we cook and eat. My daughter is a fourth grade teacher now (and getting a taking a bit... Read More

Great Stufed Chili Recipe! Use your cookie sheet and impress your guests with this taste of Texas.

Here is a recipe from one of my favorite sites, Best Bites for Texas. It is a publicatuion of the Texas Department of Agriculture and I think it shows what can be done when governmental agencies are passionate and committed without having to be committed.

This is a great recipe for stuffed chili peppers. Try this and the drop them a line at bestbites@TexasAgriculture.gov.... Read More

Sausage Bread! You will love this! Use your cookie sheets!

It was serious party time at the old casa this weekend. We had our traditional Millionaire Seafood Gumbo and Sausage Bread with lots of appetizers and deserts. I thought I'd share the sausage bread idea today. It seems that I can never make enough. If there is any left over, I always have requests for sausage bread care packages. It couldn't be easier.

Bakery Supplies and Christmas Cookies

bakery supplies

Every year I make our traditional family Christmas cookies. My kitchen looks like a professional bakery for about one week before the Holidays. Ok, maybe not quite professional but definitely full of all kinds of bakery supplies! I leave most of the bakery supplies out on the counters along with the food processor and other kitchen utensils needed for baking.

I begin by... Read More

Cooking Recipes are Meant to be Shared!

It's that time of year for holiday celebrations with neighbors, friends and family. I went to my first holiday party of the season last weekend at my girlfriends house. The hostess made her own egg nog from scratch. Now, every year I look forward to my girlfriends delicious home made eggnog. We serve it plain or with a little rum and nutmeg sprinkled on the top. Good... Read More

Cooking baking sets are great for bridal showers

cookbook

A friend of mine got married a couple years ago, the same year my oldest brother remarried. In fact their weddings were a week apart, same day no less. Well one day I happened to be looking at books, and found a cookbook that I didn't have to think twice about adding to my cart. I browsed around some more before going back to my cart and changing the quantity from one... Read More

I have more cookbooks than I use

cookbook

I love to bake and I like to cook as well, and the one thing I like to do even more is to collect cookbooks. I know I don't need half of the cookbooks I actually have, but I can't help myself. I find cookbooks on sale and they have a recipe or two inside, and they're mine! I once bought a cookbook because it had a recipe that I couldn't resist. I looked at the list of... Read More

Mid week Blues? Try Bubba Ducote's Etouffee. Simple and really Good!

Mid week doldrums getting you down? Here’s a nifty little recipe that I learned from my wife’s good friend, Bubba Ducote. Yes, Bubba is a Cajun and yes, Bubba can cook anything and make it taste great. However, my friends from just over the Sabine River are usually not into quick and easy. Their gumbos and etouffees are all day projects. Bubba, on the other hand, is a likably... Read More

Frozen Puff Pastry is just the bomb! Make a fast and delicious coffee cake to enjoy while you prepare for shopping!

Tuesday during the Holiday season brings the ads in droves. I just went to my mail box and I thought I was going to have to have a sled dog to bring the load back to the house. Sheesh! The email box was no better. I can’t blame these folks for trying their best. It’s a very important time of the year for retailers of all kinds. Did you know that some stores make more than half... You're going to get tired sometime this Holiday Season. Here's a simple way to a great side dish!

Hello and welcome to a new week! I am so tired from the weekend that I am about to drop. That brings to mind one of the easiest and most well received side dishes that I serve around this time of year. That dish is roasted root vegetables. The ones that I use are potatoes (I like the fingerling kind.), beets with the greens, carrots with the greens, and leeks. I have thrown in... Read More

Chili! Time to start thinking about Chili Cook offs and Warm by the fire food!

Posting for December 4, 2009

I keep trying to get back around to that cheesecake recipe, now that we’ve talked a bit about the crust and the pan, but I keep getting distracted. There is a bit of snow in the air here (and boy is that unusual in Houston). When the weather turns cold in Texas, a young man’s heart turns to …. Chili!!!!

This is the height of culinary controversy in... Read More

Adding a Comment to Yesterdays Post. Spring Form Pans! More Than Cheesecake!

One of the things that I forgot to mention yesterday, when we were talking about low carb crusts for holiday pies and cheesecakes, is the absolutely invaluable spring form pan. You really should have these things in a number of sizes. If you have to choose only one, I would recommend a 9” with as deep a ring as you can find. I prefer non-stick in this application. You will not... Read More

Sharing cooking recipes this time of year

cooking recipes, cookbookWe just finished being great kichen cooks for Thanksgiving and now it is time for more cooking baking. This is the time many of us dust off the old cooking recipes or our favorite cookbook and bake or cook the families traditional favorites. I will need to check my bakery supplies and see if I still have all the items needed to decorate the holiday cookies and other baked... Read More

No reason not to enjoy the Holidays! Low Carb Cheesecake crust!

Happy Wednesday! Are you just about to be ready to eat again after that feast last week? Well, I was thinking of some ways to lighten up on some really good things to eat during the season, just in case a trip to the tailor wasn’t in this year’s Christmas budget. I thought we might start with a crust for cheese cakes.

Cheesecake can be low-carb and surprisingly low in calories... Read More
