Grilling Sausages and Great Fall Festivals! |

What an absolutely great time of year! Fall is moving in with all of its great festivals and wonderful weather. Here in Texas, our large German and Czech communities are celebrating the harvest and the final warm days before winter, The Oktoberfest was just a ball this year. We were able to attend celebrations in Houston and to attend the Wurstfest in New Braunfels (not to be missed!). Czhilispiel in Flatonia is really great (fourth week in October). Sausages are a large part of these great celebrations.
Its a great time to look for some of the local sausages in your area. Bratwurst and Polska kielbasa are great grilling sausages for that football game or impromptu dinner with friends. These are particularly good for grilling. Let me suggest that you pick up a grill pan to use on you stove for those quick and delightful meals that feature these two great meat entrées.
My favorite is cast iron (as is the case for most cookware I really enjoy using). It takes a bit of maintenance, but it cooks so evenly and thoroughly. I must admit, though, that banging around the web and buying for my business at GoodGalley.com I've had my eye on a really good looking round Stainless griddle. I'll let you know how this works out when I get it in.
You can use one with the raised grill ridges or with a completely flat surface (my standby is reversable). It just depends on how you want the meat to turn out. Ridged gives grill marks and a bit of browned meat in between. Flat give a caramelized, brown surface wherever the meat rests to cook on the surface. Both are very good if not over done. Be sure you oil the surface properly to avoid sticking.
Great eating, everyone! I hope you all have a great weekend and get to enjoy your favorite activity with some terrific food. |
