It’s kind of funny how your thoughts turn to odd things as another year comes to a close. While I was sitting here trying to think of what I might write about for today’s posting, my eye wandered across an old manual (actually a bit of a cook book) for my almost exhausted George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine, hereto fore know as it is in my house as The George. I have literally cooked this thing into oblivion. It is essentially a contact grill, having heating elements in the top and the bottom plates. This produces cooking times that are considerably faster that a stovetop grill can produce. For the things that it is intended to do, it is one fine machine. Anything you can do on a flat grill, you should be able to do on The George. The George also offers the benefit of letting the fat and juice run out, via a built in tilt to the whole assembly. You can catch this stuff in the trays provided with the device or in any other container that you can stick under there. I like to cook thick bacon on this thing and catch the drippings to use for flavoring in other things (NOTE: Big Chili Secret for cooking your beef!). I believe Salton Maxim is still the manufacturer of this device. It also makes great sandwiches, like a Cuban. The compression can be enhanced with a couple of large canned goods on the top, if needed. Meat is this grill’s home ground. Spice it up, throw it on and just enjoy some good grilled meat in record time. Look into these things. They have a wide variety of sizesMore importantly, it brought to mind Mr. Foreman himself. Now, I have never had the pleasure of meeting George Foreman. That is something that I would love to do (note to bucket list). However, I have followed his career and exploits with great interest. If you want to see rags to riches/ tough guy to great guy/ example of what not to be to example of what to be, look this story up. From Third Ward thug in Houston to Family man and Christian minister, with a few trips to the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship along the way, Mr. Foreman’s journey is filled with twists and turns of every variety. I’ll be the first one to go see the movie, when they make it.
In the mean time, I hope your cooking goes well and that you have someone to share it with. If not, there are many opportunities for you to provide someone with a basic joy this Holiday season. Feed somebody! It’s fun and really means a lot.
Happy Holidays and Pura Vida!
