bakery supplies

Every year I make our traditional family Christmas cookies. My kitchen looks like a professional bakery for about one week before the Holidays. Ok, maybe not quite professional but definitely full of all kinds of bakery supplies! I leave most of the bakery supplies out on the counters along with the food processor and other kitchen utensils needed for baking.

I begin by looking over all the cookie recipes. I determine what is on hand and make a very specific check list of what is needed to create each Christmas treat. I then go to the grocery store and hit the bakery aisle. I reach the checkout stand with a full cart of bakery supplies. When I get home everything is unloaded and placed in an organized, easy to find and use fashion on the kitchen counters. These include the basics of flour, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and baking soda. Some bakery supplies require refrigeration such as eggs, butter and milk.

Now the fun begins! I reacquaint myself with each recipe and come up with a baking game plan. Some doughs need to be refrigerated before using. Others need chopped pecans that have been colored green. Still other recipes are quick and easy. I try to mix it up to keep it fun! I often find myself getting up at 3am in order to turn the bakery supplies into Christmas cookies!
